WHAT ARE MUSSELS ?

Mussels are a bivalve mollusc from the clams family. Its shells are composed of two equal parts. They live in colonies and inhale gills. They reproduce with eggs. The shells are crossed through muscles and very tightly connected to each other. And it's covered in a membrane called a mantle. Mussels live between these two equal covers. Thanks to the muscles in their shells, the mussels can open and close their shells according to their wishes.

2 - WHAT ARE THE FEEDING RESOURCES OF MUSSELS?

Shells of live mussels are usually closed. Dead mussels are opened because they lose their muscle concentration. With the movement of the eyelashes in the gills, the water entering through the shell goes around the body of the mussel and is thrown out of the lower hole. In this way, mussels are fed with small food sources in the water. There are no chewing structures in the mussels. The gastrointestinal tract consists of the stomach and intestine.

3 - NUTRITIONAL ELEMENTS OF MUSSELS

The mussel has a soft fleshy foot. The substance secreted by this foot turns into hair-like fibers in water. In this way, mussels cling to rocks and scaffolds. If the mussel does not like its location, it can tear off these fibers and attach them elsewhere. Mussels are particularly rich in selenium, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12 and C. Also, as in other seafood, mussels contain rich Omega 3 fatty acids. Mussels produced under healthy conditions are therefore very useful for human health.
